The Lost Gospel of Pontius Pilate by Michael Punter.

Performed by Maxwell Caulfield.

27th April 2025.

It’s the year 36AD and Pontius Pilate, former Roman governor of Judea, has been recalled to Rome to account for his political excesses. But the story Pilate has to tell is not the one Rome expects. It is a story of intrigue, intelligence and betrayal across the Middle East. At its heart is Pilate’s encounter with a strange little rabbi from Nazareth called Jesus. In this play, part memoir, part thriller - the Gospel story we think we know is dramatically re-told for a contemporary audience.

The play will be performed as a script-in-hand reading by Maxwell Caulfield. Maxwell rose to fame in the 1980s in Grease 2 and then took a leading role in the TV series Dynasty and The Colbys. His stage work includes leading roles on Broadway and in the West End, including Chicago and Guys and Dolls. Most recently, Maxwell and his wife Juliet Mills toured the UK in Michael Punter's play Darker Shores.

The reading will last for around one hour and will be followed by a post-show Q and A with Maxwell and playwright Michael Punter.
