'What fools these mortals be'

A documentary by Dmitri Galtizine

If you visited the Barn last summer you may have spotted award-winning film-maker, Dmitri Galitzine, shooting a behind-the-scenes documentary of the 2024 summer production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

Dmitri followed Peter, Zo and all the cast over 2-3 months from the initial meeting, castings, rehearsals through to the final performances. The result is a documentary which is due to be released later this year; however, Dmitri has kindly allowed the film to premiere at the Barn

as an accompaniment to this year’s production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

We are certain it will be a very special and fitting tribute to our wonderful society, and an intriguing insight into our rehearsal process for anyone interested in all the work that goes on behind the scenes when staging a production.

'What fools these mortals be', which is about 30 minutes long, will be screened in the Barn at 6pm before each performance. Those who book tickets to see ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ will be welcome to arrive early to view the documentary projected onto a screen on the stage from 6pm, with the play then starting at the usual time of 7:30pm. The café will be open and the grounds open as usual for picnics.

'Step behind the curtain of a small-town theatre company as they take on Shakespeare's masterpiece, A Midsummer Night's Dream.
This heartwarming documentary captures the chaos, camaraderie, and sheer determination of everyday people as they chase theatrical glory bringing new life to this timeless tale of love, mischief and magic.'
