The Ellen Terry Barn Theatre present
in association with The National Trust:
The Importance of Being Earnest
by Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest bursts to life in this vibrant, fast‑paced production that celebrates the play’s razor‑sharp wit and joyful absurdity.
Follow Jack and Algernon as their carefully crafted alter egos spiral into chaos, sparking mistaken identities, unexpected romance, and some of the most quotable lines in theatre. With elegant period costumes, playful staging, and a cast that embraces Wilde’s humour with impeccable timing, this production by The Ellen Terry Barn Theatre Society captures the charm and satire that have made The Importance of Being Earnest a classic for over a century.
Directed by Zo Biba‑Leonard, the show features a stellar ensemble of seasoned Barn performers and exciting new faces. Louise Kimber, Andrew McGrath and Rachel Kimber return after their memorable turns in last year’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, joined by newcomers Seth Ringrose and Jemima Bowler. Charlotte Eastes makes a welcome return to the Barn for her first performance in many years, while company stalwarts Susannah Mayor and Peter Mould complete the cast.
Perfect for both long‑time fans and first‑time visitors, it promises an evening of clever comedy, sparkling dialogue and irresistible entertainment.
Grounds are open for picnics from 6pm on the day of each performance and the cafe/bar will be open. Performance begins at 7:30pm.
